Name: Rose Hathaway (Has been known to answer to Roza and Little Dhampir)
PB: Odette Annable (N.B: The movie comes out in Feb and I may well change her PB then if that's permitted but I've been using Odette for years and she's one of the favored fancastings).
Journal: [personal profile] littledhampir
Age: 18, though she can comfortably pass for several years older.

Appearance: Rose's Turkish and Scottish heritage gives her skin the color of the inside of an almond. Paired with long brown hair and brown eyes, Rose describes herself as having semi-exotic desert-princess features. Standing at 5ft7, she has an athletic build brought on by years of training and is known for her curves, despite her athleticism.

Rose also has a number of tattoos that are unique to Guardians on the back of her neck. Molnija Marks that look like lightening strikes forming an X, marking the number of Strigois that she has killed and a Zevzda Mark, a tribal star that signifies the person has been in a great battle and killed many Strigoi. It's worth noting to anyone that would know the marks of a Guardian that Rose does not bear the promise mark that would show her to be a fully fledged Guardian.

It's been hammered into her through training to always be aware of exits and be within reach of one if an urgent escape is required so it's likely that anyone talking to her might notice she takes check of them when she enters a room and during conversation her eyes will casually sweep the surrounding area. It's said in canon that Rose is one of those people who turns heads when she walks into a room, not because of her looks (though that may be a factor) but because she has an air of confidence around her.

Anyone with the ability to see Auras would note that Rose's is always tinged with black, like dark shadows that surround the color it gives off. These shadows darken when her mood does.

History: Nifty little Wikia Link.

Powers/Talents: Though Rose is shadow-kissed, after arriving she would no longer have the same connection she once had with Lissa. The bond is effectively severed unless Lissa were to arrive. While they remain in two different places, Rose will probably no longer take Spirit's ill effects from her?

(This is one of those things that can go either way - I default to 'she won't' but it's theoretically possible she's still getting the side effects, just without the bond itself - I leave that up to you whether the instability can be absorbed by her through the grasp.)

What is arguably the most frightening side effect from being shadow-kissed, is that Rose can communicate and worse still, be attacked by the dead. Spirits that have not moved on will seek her out and if she weakens and can no longer keep her mind closed they will break through into her reality. They appear invisible to the human (or Moroi/Dhampir) eye, but will turn on any they do not believe should be walking in the mortal realm. Though this will cause Rose excruciating pain, she has found it useful when facing a Strigoi. Though she was brought back to life, they are the living dead and the spirits will focus their wrath on them over a shadow-kissed. They do however need a shadow-kissed to be channeled into the physical realm and because of what it does to do, the chances that she will use it are minimal at best.

Rose can also sense the undead, a fluttering in her stomach hitting her as any creature that falls into this category comes close to her. (Yet another side effect of being shadow-kissed.) <-- For this I use a permissions post and let the person playing the undead creature decide if she can sense them or not if they aren't from her canon.

Rose has trained to be a Guardian from the time she was a child. She is an extremely skilled fighter, in both armed and unarmed combat. Though she may be smaller than many of her opponents, she has trained to use her size to her advantage. Her weapon of choice is a Silver Stake that has been charmed with the four key elements of Moroi Magic, (Earth, Fire, Wind & Water.)

Finally, as a Dhampir (a half human, half Vampire), Rose has increased strength, agility and senses. She's not exactly what you call a super hero, but she is superhuman. She heals a little faster than a regular person but doesn't drink blood or have any sensitivity to light.

It should also be noted that as a Dhampir, Rose is slightly more resistant to compulsion than the average human. A supernatural creature would be able to smell the difference on her, particularly her blood. It is also said that Dhampir or Moroi blood makes a Vampire (Strigoi) stronger and harder to kill, which is why The Strigoi will choose to hunt them rather than live on a ready supply of human blood.

Personality: Few people know the true Rose Hathaway. They see her as reckless and mouthy. Somebody who cares little for anyone or anything and even less for the rules and opinions of authority figures. Though some, if not all of this is true, it's not an accurate reflection of the real Rose. To know her true person, you only have to look at her relationship with her best friend Vasilisa Dragomir. For years now, Rose has been taking care of the unstable Moroi. Taking the blame for her actions whenever she has flown off the handle and even choosing to abandon a life she greatly enjoyed at the Academy, to go on the run with Lissa to try and protect her from some unseen evil that only Lissa seemed to be aware of.

She proved in her time on the run that she is willing to sacrifice a great deal in order to protect the people she loves. She allowed Lissa to feed on her, despite the negative connotations associated with it (Dhampirs who let Moroi feed on them get labelled Blood-Whores), how weak she would be afterwards, and the risk of becoming addicted to Moroi bites (Like being injected with heroin every time you are bitten.) She was forever trying to put Lissa's needs and safety ahead of her own. Though all Dhampir's training to be Guardian's are taught that they (the Moroi) come first, Rose's commitment to Lissa has proven to go beyond that.

She's determined (or stubborn if you will) when she needs to be, especially when she feels she has to prove herself. The easiest way to get Rose to do something is tell her that she can't. That's exactly what happened when she returned to the Academy, catching up on two years worth of missed training in just a few short months. Consequently however, this can lead Rose to do things that are either unwise or just plain foolish (going after several friends because she was challenged, led not only to her capture, but the eventual death of her one-time boyfriend and good friend, Mason).

There are some things about Rose on the other hand, that are exactly as they appear. She speaks her mind, whether it's appropriate or not, as shown in her many conversations with the Queen. She won't take crap from anyone and the only hope you ever have of getting her to not go down the road of don't get mad, get even, is if doing so puts the people she loves at risk, such as when Mia was going after Lissa. She prefers to solve her problems with her fists rather than words, again, Mia's broken nose case in point. She somehow manages to be both guarded, and yet wear her heart on her sleeve (Especially when it comes to Dimitri), a side effect for the most part from being shadow-kissed (as you will read about below). Despite all of her faults (and she knows there are many), she wants to be the very best that she can be, if not for herself, then for Lissa. She wants to be worthy of the title of Guardian and works every day to make that happen.

If her life wasn't complicated enough already, Rose is shadow-kissed. Though this may not affect her in the exact same way as it did back home, the event that caused this greatly changed Rose's life, and with or without the bond, she is still greatly defined by this. To be shadow-kissed is to have died, and be brought back to life by a Moroi who has the rare magical gift of Spirit, that allows the user to heal and in rare circumstances, resurrect a person that has passed on. In bringing Rose back, Lissa's powers as a spirit user blossomed, and she forged a seemingly permanent bond between the two. Rose has been able to not only read Lissa's mind, but enter it, see through Lissa's eyes. The bond was only one way, which meant that though Lissa could send thoughts through to Rose, Rose was unable to communicate with her (without the help of another Spirit user.)

There was however, a severe downside to being shadow-kissed. Spirit users are by nature, very unstable, and the more they use their magic, the worse it gets. As the person bonded to Lissa, Rose absorbs some of the darkness that would overcome her. Though it made Lissa better, Rose was prone to moods, sudden outbursts and even uncontrollable fits of rage, such as the altercation between Rose and the Moroi's who were using their magic to attack each other. Were it not for Dimitri's intervention, Jesse would likely have been killed. The best way to deal with that was to wear objects charmed with Spirit, or to receive small healings from Lissa. She could control the rage to a degree, but eventually something had to give and more often than not, the result was not pretty.

With the bond seemingly no longer in tact, Rose would feel as though a piece of herself is missing. For the last four years she has had to think for two people and try and balance the wants and needs of both. She has almost forgotten what it means to make choices based solely on her own needs and desires, and though the prospect of being on own would have been frightening in her own world, it will actually give Rose the opportunity to grow and mature in ways that were never possible before.

Like all Dhampir's who train to be Guardian's, Rose seems much older than her age may suggest. Imagine being taken from your home from a very young age and raised to fight an enemy who are stronger and faster and show no mercy. With a life expectancy of mid -twenties (younger if you aren't as gifted as others), there isn't a lot of time to be young and foolish. In her earlier years Rose may have been more frivolous than her peers (drinking, not paying attention in class, almost never, ever picking up a book). Once she saw first-hand just how dangerous the real world was, Rose cast aside her youth, or perhaps it's better to say that she had it ripped away from her when she was forced to see first-hand just how powerful and deadly Strigoi can be (Mason's Death.)

Still, she is eighteen years old. She has moments of emotional immaturity. She hasn't learned that some fights aren't worth having. She rails against the mother she believes abandoned her for her own career as a Guardian, which is perhaps why she has little to no regard for authority figures. She is still naive enough to believe that society's opinions shouldn't matter if you feel it is right (her relationship with Dimitri case in point). She seems immune to all rules of society, treating the Queen with the same indifference that she may treat a fellow Guardian in training if she feels that they are wrong. She can be unfairly judgmental, though finds a way to justify it in her mind, (Her mistrust of Christian Ozera and her resultant meddling in his relationship with Lissa). She is arrogant - sometimes deservedly so but sometimes too much for her own good. She is both fearless, yet utterly frightened at the same time but at the core of it, she is a good person. Sometimes that just gets lost along the way.

Though her most significant relationship may be with her best friend Lissa, there is one person who has come into her life that has arguably had the greatest impact on her to date, and that is Dimitri Belikov. Seven years her senior, what began as a student-teacher relationship, grew into something more, but due to a variety of reasons, (age, school, the fact that both will become Lissa's Guardians) Dimitri refuses to allow things to go further.

Despite the sexual tension, during the six months that Dimitri had taken Rose under his wing, he taught Rose how to value herself, not only as a potential Guardian, but as a woman, by letting her see that she was worth more than casual hook-ups with Moroi students (and threatening to beat said students up if he caught them at it). He taught her that looking after herself was more important than putting Lissa first in everything, that the motto 'They Come First' didn't mean that she had to sacrifice her wants, needs and quite literally her sanity. He was the one to see her through learning about her various shadow-kissed abilities and he was the first, and only person she ever appeared vulnerable before.

It took the two of them consummating their relationship, only to have Dimitri turned Strigoi that same day, for Rose to truly understand what it meant to choose herself. When she turned her back on the Academy, it was for the love she felt for Dimitri, and the unspoken promise the two had made: That it was better to be dead, than to be one of them. Though Lissa tried to force her to stay, for the first time in Rose's life, she found the strength to say no.

Where things stand at her canon point, Rose believes that she was successful in her attempt to kill Strigoi!Dimitri and has just returned to St. Vladimir's where she hopes to try and move on with her life as best she can. For the first time in living memory, Rose's future is very much uncertain, unaware if she can even re-enroll at the Academy after taking off for a second time. Though she believes it is now too late for Dimitri, she will be haunted by the possibility, albeit a very, very unlikely one, that had she not staked him on the bridge, there might have been a chance to save him. She will stand by the belief that she did the right thing however and can only try and move forward one day at a time, though in coming to a new place, that will mean doing so on her own.

Why would your character be chosen? Rose is only one of two Shadowkissed Dhampir's in known existance, making her a rarity even among her own people. It is also widely regarded that if not for her sometimes wild and disrespectful nature, she could be one of the best Guardian's the Moroi have seen for some time. She was the only Novice to fight during the attacks, the only one to bare the Zvedza Mark and has a number of Strigoi kills under her belt all before she has passed her trials.

How much does your character know about nonhumans? She knows all there is to know about Strigoi, Moroi and of course Dhampir's but they are the only non-humans that appear in her canon (That she knows about.)

In Addition: (Because I just finished reading the mini bios of all the NPCs); Alchemists are something that exist in Rose's world. They are Humans who work with the Guardian's to keep the Moroi world a secret. Rose recognizes them by the Golden Lily they have tattooed on their cheek and wikia has more info about them here.

Why this character: Rose is the first muse that I ever picked up and that was going on... two years ago now? What drew me to her is that she's flawed, that she makes mistakes, can be selfish and selfless at the same time, that playing her in a new setting opens her up to possibilities that were never available to her in canon. Rose is one of those characters that's always a buzz to play because you never know what's going to happen with her, her impulsive nature meaning that any new character she meets could go in a hundred different directions and no two game experiences with her is the same.

First-Person: (First network post)

[Somebody seems to think that giving her an ear piece and telling her to think to talk to people is the most ridiculous thing she's ever heard. This from a girl who died once and was brought back to life and planned to spend her life killing Vampire's for a living.

As the feed starts up there's only the sound of breathing, as if she's waiting for something to happen, shortly followed by a huff of frustration.]

They can shove this and the dress right where the sun - ADRIAN!

[Apologies to your ears but somebody hasn't given up the hope that this is a really elaborate Spirit dream and hasn't worked out that her ear piece is working just fine.]

If this is about the dent I put in your trust fund - there are ways that are far less dangerous to your health to get me back.

[There's a pause, like she's once again waiting for something to happen, for the world around her to shimmer and change and she'd be back in her bed despite the fact that she hadn't been asleep when she'd been brought here.]

I am jet-lagged and hungry and I am more than happy to find out if you can still bleed in a Spirit dream.

[The anger raising up a notch, but that is where it stops because as much as Rose wouldn't put it past Adrian to mess with her? Even he wouldn't be stupid enough to pull something like this. It also involved too much effort.

A sigh can be heard followed by the flop of a body as it hits a mattress, the barely audible drumming of fingers on the bed.]

I seriously can not be here as a mail-order bride.
