ANGST.

Dean had threatened to drag Rose to civilization and teach her how to play pool. Actually he'd said something about trying to teach her how to be 'normal' and there were only so many days and weeks that two people could drive and hunt non-stop without killing each other so when they found a pub with a pool table and rooms available for overnight guests, it had seemed like as good a time as any to blow off a little steam.

The teaching Rose part is probably going to be a little easier said than done however, mainly because she's holding the cue like she's wielding a weapon but she does at least seem a little more relaxed than usual. It's something that happens whenever she drinks and for once she's not watching the exits like a madman with a gun is about to come through the door and gun them all down.]

And this is fun? Using a stick to smack balls into holes.

[ The costume is originally just a joke. Something to make him laugh. When it happens though Killian doesn't completely notice it at first. He leaves the shop to head back to the warehouse and the sun starts to irritate. It's noticeable only because he's not used to his body reacting that way. Something changed. Shifted. His tooth catches his bottom lip and he's bleeding. His tongue snakes out to run over the cut. Something's wrong. If the situation with the sun wasn't dead obvious the fact that two of his teeth were sharper than usual was the kicker.

Two hours is spent pacing in the warehouse. He sheds the costume almost immediately. He prays it does the trick. He remembers this. Rose went through this with the stripping. He got free lap dances out of the deal, but he's certain that lap dances won't be in the cards this time. Calling Rose is his first instinct. Pulling her into this doesn't seem fair though. Not when Killian has absolutely no idea what's even happening. He's lost and left with no idea how to fix this. Doesn't mean he'll pull Rose into this as well.

The lights are off upstairs and he's sitting on the couch when she comes home. The bottle of rum he pulled out is empty and he looks frustrated once you get close enough to see him. If the light is turned on then she'll most likely notice the new paleness to him. Worse than before. ]

[Back home she would have spotted the difference immediately, her improved eyesight just one of the many things she missed about being a full blooded Dhampir but even she catches the paler shade of his skin as she flicks on a lamp and walks over to join him. Normally she'd be ready to climb into his lap, to shake off a day of work by getting wrapped up with him but she hesitates, concern making her brow furrow as she takes in both Killian and the empty bottle of Rum.]

[The bag that had been slung over her shoulder drops to the ground, Rose folding herself onto the catch beside him, body angled towards his, a hand reaching out to push his hair back from his face, like she was taking his temperature. He didn't feel cooler or warmer to the touch but then he wouldn't, given what was actually happening to him.]

Exactly... how big of a problem are we talking here? [Studying him closely as her hand moves over his cheek, finger trailing over the cut on his lip, Rose seeing all the signs that she should recognize but not yet clicking.]

[ He doesn't feel sick. Just weird. Off. Different. He doesn't feel like himself and he's not sure what's really going on. He doesn't know much about Moroi to really pin down what's happening. He doesn't know much about vampires period. They're not something you really learn much about in the Enchanted Forest. They don't run wild there and he certainly hasn't encountered any on the high seas. He really wants to seek information from another person. He doesn't really want to drag her down with this.

Killian leans into her hand. Just tries to leach some comfort from her. How big was the problem? Would she be upset with him? Would she walk out? Would she ask him to leave? He knows that she's bound to be a guardian. It's her lot in life she says. He's never tried to push her away from that. Whatever he's becoming--it'll become a chore for her. Something she's obligated to handle. ]

Big. [ Killian opens his mouth and tilts his head back to allow her to see inside of it. Once she's seen the teeth he closes it and tilts his head forward. He sighs heavily. ] It seems they've brought back those insane costumes again.

[The fear and worry comes off of him in waves, making her own stomach twist itself into knots in the silence that seems to stretch out forever. She couldn't think of anything he could say or do that they couldn't deal with and yet he's been sitting here, alone in the dark, drinking and it's hard for her not to start imagining the absolute worst, like he'd been cursed and somebody was pregnant and that somebody, so wasn't her.

That one word - Big - it only made it worse, Rose bracing herself for something that might eclipse the Finnick and Annie hell she'd had inflicted on her by the last person she had feelings for.

All this is why, when he shows her his teeth, when everything falls into place in her head she pitches forward, leaning into him, hand slipped around to cup the back of his head as she breathes a sigh of relief.] Jesus – I thought... [She didn't even want to give voice to what she thought. He was okay, relatively and they were okay. Everything else? They could deal with.]

You – just scared the crap out of me. [The worry melts away into a smile though and Rose doesn't hesitate to lift her leg over his body and climb into his lap, straddling him as she raises her other hand to cup his face. It's frightening how familiar this is – Vampire Problems – She just never imagined that Killian would be the Vampire with the problem.]

This... is - [Rose leans in, presses a light kiss against his lips, mindful of the fact that he has a newly set of sharpened fangs to contend with.] Nothing, we can't handle baby.

[ When she leans forward like that he thinks for a moment that she might be ready top pop him upside the head for being stupid. Though technically it wasn't his fault. Halloween in Atia can get tricky. Sometimes you have to deal with really weird stuff coming up to bite you in the ass. Usually it had to do with sex and your collar only being able to loosen for certain instances. He guesses that this is the best thing that could have happened given how awful Atia can be at times. At least he's not being forced to have sex with strangers. ]

Sorry. [ He sounds guilty, but he's more afraid than anything else. She climbs into his lap and Killian just tilts his head back to look at her. Her hands on his face are reassuring. It's good to be close to her when he's spiraling and going into a sort of panic. Even if he does feel like he's basically piling onto whatever issues she's having herself. This can't be an easy one for her to contend with.

The kiss makes him smile. Being close to her makes him happy. Even if he's certain he has absolutely no idea how to contend with this. How do you be a Moroi? How do you be a bloody vampire? How do you eat food with these bloody fangs in the way? He feels crippled. ]

[Horrible would have been what she'd been imagining. Horrible, would have been him being turned into a Strigoi; pale, chalky skin, eyes the color of blood, all that had ever been good about him taken away. This? She was more worried about what it was doing to him? The concept of Vampires was one thing but having to deal with a blood diet when you weren't raised that way? That was a whole other.]

Stop. [Her voice gentle as she tries to get him to slow down, to just be in this moment with her. Anyone else? Who knows, maybe this would be a lot harder for her but this is Killian? She loved him when he only had one hand, she's loved him every day since, in spite of curses, in spite of the fact that she'd lost him once.]

This? Having you to come home to every day, waking up to you, just... knowing you're there. That's how you take care of me and that's not going to stop just because Atia is playing more games. [She presses her forehead agains his, fingers teasing at the ends of his hair, the scent of rum hitting her with her in close like this.] You don't add to my load, you make it easier to bear. [She pulls back just a little, tilts his chin up so that she can look at him.] And I love you, no matter what so... stop... worrying okay? This will go away in a few days and even if it doesn't? [Stealing another light kiss.] Still gonna love you.

[ He's been wrapped up in her for a year now. He's gone home and come back only to return with a hand that for months he thought was bad. He practically had a mental break down when he told her about the hand. He thought bad things were going to happen. Thought that he was truly doomed to become the cunning pirate that he was seen as. Thought that he'd get shrouded in his darkness even after he worked so hard to find happiness here. For some time he thought Rumpelstiltskin had bested him again.

Killian lifts both hands to wrap around her sides. Slowly he nods as he tries to force his head to wrap around the fact that he's not her burden. Not like this. Not ever. Even if there's still a part of him that believes that he is then he'll work harder to not be. He'll work extra to make sure she understands that she comes first no matter what. She'd still worry about everyone else. He would worry about her. Even if he was now one of the things that she was supposed to be protecting. He'd insist he could handle that. ]

Good. [ He leans in to kiss her again. This time one of his teeth catches her lip. When he pulls back he can see he's managed to cut her there. He winces and his head flops back. ] I can't even kiss you properly with these bloody things. [ Someone is feel frustrated and sorry for himself. ] Are you alright?

[She doesn't want him to work at anything though, she just wants him to be Killian, not to try hard or harder, to be content with being himself and knowing that's enough for her. Maybe she'll never be able to convince him of that, maybe three hundred years of people telling you that you're one thing and one thing only means that Killian will never be able to be perfectly comfortable in his own skin, or the fact that she loves him no matter what but in a lot of ways, that's what makes him human and that's just one of the many reasons why she does love him. He doesn't take her for granted and he probably never will.

When he catches her lip, Rose stiffens, gasps and yet not for the reasons he's no doubt thinking. It was brief, so, very brief and yet a jolt ran through her in that moment and this is the first time it's slammed into her, he's not just a Vampire, he's Moroi and he's everything that comes with it.]

I'm fine – trust me... I'm - [She lets out a breathless chuckle.] More than fine. [She's not about to let him pull away from her, not even when she has blood beading on her bottom lip, instead she leans in again, body pressed to his, not bothering to wipe the blood away when she kisses him again. His brain might reject the idea of drinking blood but he was Moroi and his body would no doubt respond to it. Dhampir weren't the only ones who got off on biting during sex after all.] Doesn't have to be all bad, ya know...

[ When it actually does hit his tongue it's a different sensation than he thought. He's still thinking like the old him. Unaware of all the differences that have cropped up since this costume took hold. Unaware of all the things that his body will no doubt be feeling and reaching for. Since he discovered the fangs it occurred to him that his diet would shift. He knew that. He just wasn't unaware of what it'd feel like and if he'd be able to do it. He still felt like himself, but different.

The kiss breaks and his tongue rolls over his lips. Catching the smeared blood. He never thought his brain would react that way to blood. Especially in this manner. Three hundred years alive and very little actually baffles Killian. Except for technology. That really did get him. Magic has never confused him. It's always been apart of life. What's happening here though? Not at all what Killian expected. ]

What exactly do you mean? [ He hasn't quite got on to what she's saying. Because as far as he's ever been informed the biting bled into a no territory. One that she didn't do. What they did in the bedroom with biting was different than what this was. At least he figured it was. ] You won't get tired of putting up with me marking up your lips?

[Rose watches him carefully when the kiss breaks, unsure whether he was going to be utterly disgusted by this or not. She'd grown up with this sort of crap, had seen five year olds lining up to get their fill on feeders. Not feeding was unnatural to Rose. Drinking out of bloodbags the way Elena talked about seemed utterly disgusting to her but aside from her stories, this was all new to Killian and there was at least a moment there when she looked a little worried, bracing herself for the worst kind of reaction.

His words see her breathe a sigh of relief, a small smile twisting across her lips.] You'll get the hang of it. [A confidence in her tone that he probably didn't feel.] Don't ya know? [Tone light, teasing if not suggestive, Rose wanting to distract him from the downsides by drawing his attention to the good and as if to illustrate her point, she swept her hair back over her shoulder, exposing the long line of her neck. She knows what he'll think, she knows what she's supposed to think as well but she's not some whore and he's not just anyone. If ever there was somebody she trusted enough, it was him.]

[ She's hostile. Ninety percent of the time she's surly. Clark has come to terms with that though. She can be as angry as she'd like. She's lost people. Good people. People who are important to her. He's not sure what purpose he serves in her life, but he knows it's not the voice of reason. He mostly just talks at her. Talks at her while she uses his body as a punching bag. One day she'll break something, but until then she punches. She kicks. Sometimes he worries she won't stop. Worries she'll hurt herself trying to get the tension out.

Today is no different. They're roommates now. He's not sure why he thought it'd be a good idea, but he figured keeping her close was the best action he could take. Especially when three people could potentially be getting a live stick of dynamite dropped into their life. He could at least play shield when she went off. Bring the collateral damage down by a lot. And maybe there's a part of Clark that can't stand the idea of leaving her alone. That can't fathom the idea of her having to sort through this alone.

He can tell she's been searching for him for a while when she finds him near the temple. She doesn't even greet him. She just takes his hand and Clark moves with her. Goes where she wants him to. They stop in a darkened corridor and she winds up. She nails him. Hard. If his invulnerability wasn't back it would hurt. Badly. Instead he doesn't feel it. He doesn't even budge. He lets her keep going because this is his job. To give her a chance to sort through these damaging emotions. ]

[For Rose, it felt like there was always something to be angry about these days, even the smallest things setting her off because there was no balance anymore, no good to make the bad easier to swallow, just a lot of bad that was slowly but surely trying to drive her insane and the outlets for it were few and far between. Too many people gone, too many things changing around her and Rose stuck, unable to fix anything. She couldn’t rescue Adrian. She couldn’t save Dimitri. She couldn’t protect Lissa. About the only thing she could do was hit things, or people but apparently the latter was frowned upon when you had a history of racking up debt a lot faster than you could clear it.

Clark was basically the closest thing to a reprieve from her otherwise frustrating existence. He didn’t try to halt her outbursts, didn’t attempt to silence her rage induced rants. He just let Rose be Rose to the point where the Dhampir strongly believed he was either the most patient person in the history of ever or he was really just a sucker for punishment. It didn’t hurt that he was voluntarily played the role of her own personal punching bag, providing her with the satisfaction of hitting somebody without the annoyance of somebody getting pissed off at her.

Todays bout of rage come courtesy of one Damon Salvatore, Rose unable to fathom how the asshole who strutted about the place like he was gods gift to Teleios had anything in common with the Damon she’d dated for over a year. She could deal with him not remembering her. She could even try and pretend she didn’t still want to drive railroad spikes through his limbs for pretending he did when he’d first arrived but the constant goading that she’d had to put up with since? It honestly would have been better had he just stayed gone rather than what she had to deal with now.]

Childish – Arrogant – Dick! [Punctuating each word with a fist sailing at Clark’s abdomen, his body absorbing the impact without so much as a flinch and while that should be a good thing? Today? Everything was pissing her off.] God! Can’t you even, pretend to feel it when I hit you?! [Pushing her luck, as always it seemed but today was one of those days when Rose was looking for a fight and with Clark being one of the few people she even talked to these days, he was unfortunately for him, a convenient target.]

[ Most of the time he doesn't really know who she's mad at. He's never met Damon Salvatore. He does however like to think he knows Rose. Knows her enough to know that she doesn't just want to inflict this much violence on someone who really isn't doing much. The guy has to be hitting some sort of nerve deep inside. He doesn't question it though. He just lets her unleash on him because it's a better alternative than her punching some unsuspectings and then having to deal with agents and racking up debt. Clark doesn't care if she hits him. It doesn't phase him. Doesn't really ruin his day.

When she yells at him though and insists he feign injury he just smiles. He didn't know that was something she wanted. Him being invulnerable like this is what made him ideal. He wasn't aware she needed fake grunts and painful sounds as she made contact. He'd fake this when he was a boy. When bullies would pick on him and Clark's father wanted him to pretend that he was just a human. As he got older he stopped faking. Forgot how to fake that vulnerable side of him. ]

If I faked it then what happens if you think I'm being serious? Suddenly you think you're hurting me. Then where would we be? I thought the whole reason behind this was because I didn't feel it. I don't flinch when you hit. If this is about you wanting to see me in pain then maybe something bigger is wrong, Rose? [ More voice of reason. Despite the fact that she very rarely listens. ] Maybe it's not just about needless violence.

If you faked it, at least I’d feel like I was doing something other than just hitting you! [She wants a reaction, she wants the satisfaction of seeing what she can do with all that pent up anger and frustration but even thinking she can get that out of Clark is moronic. What she wants from him is a physical impossibility and yet she still wants it, not because she wants to hurt him, but because she wants this be something more than a reminder that no matter what she did in this place, her actions were of little consequence.]

And maybe, if I wanted a counselling session I would have asked you to be my therapist, not my punching bag. [Pushing up her sleeves and roughly swiping the back of her hand across her forehead as a trickle of sweat threatens to drip into her eyes.

She’s being a bitch, she does know this but even in bitchmode he smiles at her, he smiles and he takes whatever crap she throws at him and she should be grateful. She should consider herself lucky that she still has somebody around that she hasn’t lost or driven away but on days like today, even those smiles pissed her off. She just wanted to see, something? She wanted him to bite back, to respond, to show her the kind of emotion that she has running wild through her.]

If you wanna be doing something other than hitting me then what's the point of this exercise?

[ Clark's logical. He's compassionate. He's warm. He'll give you the shirt off his back. He'll put himself on the line for you. He doesn't hesitate when someone needs him. He'll try to mold himself to be whatever they need to get through something. That means being Rose's punching bag. Though he's realizing now that maybe she needs more than a punching bag. Maybe she needs a lot more and Clark just doesn't know what that is. Doesn't know how to be what she needs right now.

He exhales sharply when she calls him her punching bag. He already knew that. He's not offended or hurt. He doesn't have a response immediately. She wants him to bite. She wants more bite than bark and he doesn't want to really start in on that. He's not going to hit her back. He already established that long ago. He's not sure he'd be able to really do much damage to her without his strength. He was capable, but not like her. ]
